FIRST MEETING OF TF Sport Psychology

Minutes

 

1.    Opening, welcome and introduction

Michel Nicolas opened the meeting and welcomed the participants for this new task force and its first meeting, and presented a brief presentation of the Task.

 

2.    Presentation of each member and respective association

Michel Nicolas invited TF sport psychology members to introduce themselves:

Christoph Willis (Austria); Ksenija Bosnar (Croatia); Helena Sukova (Czech Republic); Satu Kaski (Finland); Henning Plessner (Germany); Marco Guicciardi (Italy); Irina Simonenkova (Latvia); Enrique Canton-Chirivella (Spain); Paul Wylleman (FEPSAC), Evangelia Kontogianni (EFPSA, Greece) and Michel Nicolas (France). These members are considered as active members of the Sport Psychology Task Force.

Veronika Polisenska (FEPSAC EC) and Aleksander Veraksa (Russia) were excused.

Participants introduced themselves and present the situation of sport psychology in their countries. Discussions raised and underlined a lot of differences between the approaches of the Sport Psychology field in the professional and academic level in these countries. It was decided that the presentations will be gathered, in an official text, presenting the education, training, supervision and organisations for sport psychologists in these different countries. The adhesion of Slovenia and Portugal was suggested by respectively Ksenija Bosnar and Enrique Canton-Chirivella. Proposals have to be sent to Valerie Boni.

 

3.    Rationale and Goals of the TF

1) Collection of information on education, training and professional practice in sport psychology in Europe

2) An inventory of possibilities for capacity building and information sharing, and for raising the profile of European sport psychology

3) Suggestions regarding improvements in the education and training of sport psychologists

4) Suggestions regarding promising lobbying activities and/or funded projects with the European Commission.

  

4.    Membership, Communication and Constitution of the Board:

Nomination of the convenor (Michel Nicolas). Evangelia Kontogianni was elected secretary general. The position for the responsible for communication is still available in the Task Force. The mailing list of EFPA which includes all members of the TF was decided to be the official way of communication. The webpage for the TF will be soon updated apart from other information also with a short CV of all members of the TF Sport Psychology. In order to have members representing all countries/members of EFPA, if there is interest from potential members for the Task Force Sport Psychology, they should send an official e-mail from their Organization for their nomination to the following e-mail: valerie.boni@efpa.eu

 

5.    Place and calendar of meetings 2012 and 2013

During the meeting, members’ Task Force discussed the potential places and dates for the upcoming meetings, in accordance with the working plan and deadlines of tasks for the team. The second meeting is planned for October 23, 2012 and will take place either in Brussels or in Croatia. The third meeting will take place in Stockholm during the congress in July 2013.

 

6.    Work plan 2012

The TF decided to collect information concerning the situation of sport psychology in the countries affiliated to EFPA. A document will be prepared before the next meeting in October and then discuss at this meeting for its final version. Each member should prepare a document based on a common model proposed by Michel Nicolas.

There were also discussions concerning the Proposals for papers in book (Aleksander Veraksa) and review (Enrique Canton-Chirivella).

 

7.    Closure

MN thanked the participants for attending, set the date for the second meeting and closed the first meeting at 4.00pm.
